So ... I just read this, a tad late, I know, but was absolutely gripped and terrified. Lacey as a British Cathy Mallory? I am totally excited to find out that the second in the series is just about to be published.

Ah, excellent to read a good review for this book. I've been wanting to read some fantasy lately - I keep meaning to but then pick up other stuff. This one's close to the top of that pile so I hope to get to it soon... I'm a bit of a fantasy newbie. I used to read it a while ago, but burnt my fingers on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. Some authors just need to learn when to STFU.

Great interview, and wasn't Tess just great at Harrogate this year too - a real crime writing superstar.
You are lucky you got so close to such a successful author with a taser without being wrestled to the ground :)

Ah, Gene Wolfe. My teenage love affair with fantasy never ended, so i would also strongly recommend Joe Abercrombie and the First Law trilogy. Amazing characterisation and writing. Not that you should take them on holiday with you, it looks as though you have enough books for a month!

I'm thinking Remembrance of Things Past - the edition in three volumes at over 1000 pages each - that should keep you going for a day or two...
